• Question; anyone know much about Nascar kits? I know zippo. I'm wondering, whether it's MPC, Salvinos, or other- are the Nascar kit bodies, say, '71-'73 Chargers, any different than a normal kit body? Wheel wells, hoods, whatever? Or any differences?
  • The old JoHan and a few old mpc kits may have close to stock/street type bodies, other than those they will need work to make look like a street version *NM*
  • The body won't have any trim. Wheel wells (wheelbase) would be to Nascar specs I think - not stock. No inner fenders.
  • MPC's were based on stock bodies, as were Jo-Han's. Salvino's kits are dedicated NASCAR versions (were never showroom stock) so theirs will be tweaked all over like the actual cars were *NM*
  • There are two NASCAR kits that I can think of that come with completely stock bodies…
  • Just FYI. Salvino's & Monogram are 1/24. The others are 1/25.😎 *NM*
    • Salvino’s 1970s era kits (Dodges, Plymouths, Culasses, Monte Carlos) are all 1:25. Their 1980s ex-Monogram kits are 1:24, as are their current NASCAR kits. *NM*

• funny thing, I've had 3 of the 64 Dodge's given to me that were minus the slant 6. If I had one I'd give it to ya, but seems to be the more popular part of that kit. *NM*

  • Project X was "transferred" to Super Chevy, then when that mag died, Hot od got it. The car was the victim of an V conversion a few years ago, but it now has a big block swapped in! *NM*
    • glad to hear it survived. It almost certainly has to be the most modified car of all time. A google search revealed that it was bought by the PHR staff for $250 in 1962! It's the same age as the AMT kit!

  • I've found you hardly need do anything! I'll take a part, sand seams and any rough area; so some existing chrome and bare plastic- covers perfectly! No primer or base paint. *NM*

    • IIRC, Dennis Doty eith listed everything that was wrong with the '34 sedan body in Model Car Journal back when the kit was first issued, or he listed everything that was right.

  • If you're looking to build a pro stock version, there is a resin body available, I have no idea what the donor kit is, but it's probably cheaper than trying to find that kit.

  • This convertible has been smoothed nicely. What year and brand is it? 50s? Dodge? The Lancer style wheel covers are like the aftermarket ones on my '61 Chevy except the red and black rectangles were all white on mine and the center plug had crossed checkered flags. *NM* *PIC*

  • Not used Almers (Elmers?) but there is a brush on liquid mask from micro scale called micro mask, works well , you remove it with tape when through, only gotcha is the mask will only be as good as your hand is steady with a paint brush so it’s use is limited Vs tape or etc *NM*
    • I used the Clear Elmer's Glue and it works as a mask. I didn't try the masking tape to remove. Will try that next. *NM*

  • Ranchero (and wagon) is on a longer wheelbase, you'd need two Torino kits to start with *NM*
