• How well do kits with cardboard displays sell? Like the Revell Rat Fink Diorama? Or the AMT Meyers Manx with diorama? Was just wondering how well they sold for the model kit companies. *NM*
  • I don't think Highway Scenes did very well for Rev-Mon. *NM*
    • When I had the shop I had both the Talladega & 37 Tudor as these 2 kits wern't available separately but the H'way scenes kits were dearer & didn't sell as well as other Revogram kits. *NM*
  • I'd be curious about this one. Can't imagine selling well. I have various MPC Jeep kits because I like them. This one I bought at a show (I knew what I was getting) for $5 because wheels were missing.....PIC

    • Nothing in the '64 would work with '65 and later. Completely different by design. *NM*

• So, a little further down the board is question about organizing and categorizing your stash of kits... I have to confess that I tend to be a bit less than organized in my hobby room.... *PICS*

• Working on Revell's '49 Merc. Colors, wheels and Engine has been picked out. A lot of trial fitting to get the engine in place.

  • If any kit deserves to be retired it's AMT's '63 Impala... I really enjoyed the latest reissue with all of the asymmetrical custom parts, but the tooling for the body is so badly worn/damaged by now that it seems hard to justify further reissues without extensive repairs. *NM*
    • It takes more prep work to get it ready to paint, for sure

  • AMT already went back at that tool once; Revell would be a much better choice
    • To me, the body in the Revell kit seems a bit boxy, as compared to the AMT kit, *NM*

  • Great idea but unlikely to happen IMO. A few years ago I picked up a complete, unbuilt annual with a painted body and interior for $30. They are out there. *NM*
    • For those of us that can't find an annual if it was staring at us, what are clues of an annual kit? Would the Prestige kit be any good? *NM*
      • The most obvious thing would be separate clear red tail lights. The Prestigue reissue would brobably be even less desirable then the latest reissue, less contents.. *NM*
        • Was the annual the only kit with clear red taillights? *NM*
          • As far as I know, plus there was a Craftsman kit molded in dark blue styrene with separate taillights. Separate taillights and screw chassis are tell tale signs. *NM*
            • Some of those were molded in white also, those were included in a drag team set as the tow car *NM*
      • Built annual would have a better engine (original one is now in the '64), also screws holding the chassis in *NM*
• It’s a shame in what they’ve become these days. *NM*

    • The second (black) one pictured WAS a kit. A couple of other ones have Revell decals on them, but the black car was the only one offered in a kit *NM*

      • I built that kit back when I was in Jr High. Got it as a Christmas gift from my grandparents one year.... Was among the models massacured by my little brother and his buddies. *NM*
        • That car as well as the McEwen car were all based on the McCulloch Revellution car, which was pretty accurate, It didn't make for very accurate car for the other 2 though. *NM*
    • You have to look for it, but the 3rd car has a Revell Decal on it as well. The Revell decals on cars never kitted is a subject line I've been planning to do for some time. Maybe next week. There are more than you think! *NM*

• Decal removal question ….have an older build I’m redoing , anyone had success using the decal softener solutions to get them to loosen up enough to lift/remove? I know the tape method and have used that on a few with success but several others are attached really well an
  • Terry, brush a heavy coat of Mircro-Sol wait about a 1/2 hr. then try tape. keep applying M/S and using tape until all decals are removed. *NM*
  • WD-40? I successfully used it to remove silver brush paint from an old pre-painted MPC body. *NM*

  • Thanks men, and the ladies, too. Saw a Facebook post the other day by a woman who served as a nurse over there. Very tough duty, the women did their part and helped save a lot of the wounded. They finally got a memorial statue of nurse helping a wounded soldier. *NM*

• Just about got my DDA 1971 HQ Holden done but anal Andy has a question, kit has an open trunk lid so I need a sissor jack & handle, got 1/24/25 tools but does any kit have a sissor jack & handle?.......TIA. *NM*
  • Some older AMT kits have scissor jacks as custom display pieces. YOu can make a handlee using Evergreen. *NM*
    • Scott, thanks I've checked the 65/66 Galaxies, 49 Ford & Merc & 50 Ford...got to check the 56/57 Fords,57/58 Chevs but I think these will have a bumper jack which I already have 3 of...I've seen a bumper jack in scale just can't remember in which kit........lol. *NM*

        • AMT '65 Galaxie. The '60/'61 Ranchero may have one also. '49 Mercury had one but I believe the more recent issues do not have it *NM*
          • These are all bumper jacks. Numerous early Sixties annual kits had scissors jacksxties annual kits xties AMT annual kits *NM*
            • AMT '53 Ford F-100 has a scissors jack, if I remember correctly. *NM*

• WARLOCK QUESTION: What year is this? Box & instructions don't say. Need source for stock wheels and standard box--want to do a stock build (or as close as I can get to one). *NM*
  • Pretty sure it's a '77..... Wheels are "stock" for a Warlock. *NM*
  • The '78 Dodge D-100 kit has the standard box and stock wheels. Suspension parts from the Warlock pop right in. *NM*

  • Could be a '77 or '78 depending on how the grille is detailed out. Both wheels in the kit are "stock". '77 has the gold spokes and '78 shows the chrome slots in the brochures but I think either could be for either year. [not sure though???] *LINK*

  • Flat top in progress. Roof came from an ebay resin 60 Impala. Everything was warped beyond repair except for the roof.

• Wouldn't it be easier to get Modle Car Garage to do a photoetchset for the Moebius F-100s and include the Mercury trucks? Granted, that still leaves the grill and tailgate, but maybe someone could've done them in resin. *NM*

  • MAD resin has done the tailgates, side emblems and front valance for the '65/'66 Mercs; the tailgates will also work for the '67/'68 trucks. Grills are the same as Fords for all sixties Mercs. Rookie Resin made an improved '67-'69 grill. *NM*
• Bill Stroppe (built early Sixties NASCAR Mercs, and later Baja Broncos) had a Mercury cabover to haul the stock cars. I saw it, restored, at Fords at Carlisle a couple of years ago *NM*

• I'm actually somewhat surprised that nobody ever offered a resin conversion to do just that.... Seems a no brainer to me. No *NM*
  • There was a resin conversion to do the Holden Monaro SEDAN years ago! I've got one, from sa friend in the Houston Auto Modelers SOciety. The resin used to make the tires turned into a liquified goo, though.
    • That resin kit with the problem tyres was a cavalier kit, I sold many thru the shop, the tyre problem didn't happen till a few years later & no one was more angrier than me I assure you. *NM*
  • Oh there were both resin front/rear clips & RHD dashes as well as complete body shells but PL when I rang them at kits announcement were unaware that the GTO was Oz made & said it was too late to incl even a RHD dash...oh well....lol. *NM*
• I'd take a look at a '66 Wildcat roof *NM*
  • I really like that idea.... Another option that would look cool (at least in my opinion) would be a '61 Plymouth/Dodge roof. *NM*
