• O/T: Amtrak #51 ride.................. *LINK*
  • I've ridden Amtrak, but rather sporadically. I've ridden in the 1980s to Illinois, to Charleston, SC in the early 1990s, and coming home from Florida following the 9/11 attack. I do recall not getting a lot of sleep due to just wanting to watch the scenery slide by at night *NM*
  • Trains.......trains........trains.........trains........I used to catch 6 trains a day to work & back home....for 11 yrs...yep I'm a slow learner, didn't have one thing for model trains in the old shop......trains.....trains......trains..........lol. *NM*
  • Rode Amtrak once. Our car lost power. No A/C - no lights at night. Windows don't open. No restaurant car for food. *NM*

• Just received the replacement parts I ordered from Moebius "The Chariot" , here's what I got...
  • You'll probably want to make sure you've got paint on all areas that come into contact with the vinyl parts. Moebius has had the occasional issue, but in my experience they do take care of their customers *NM*

    • BTW, I'm thinking (in an abundance of caution) that I'll line the rims with aluminum foil before I press the tires on even though I was told the new tires would not react with the styrene. *NM*

  • Not sure about the Warlocks (there were two); LRT could only be had with 360/LoadFlite. Some of the 360s were police units as I understand *NM*
    • I found a couple mentions of the 440 as an optional motor but it was extremely rare. *NM*
      • Probably available only in the higher "gross vehicle weight" versions *NM*
        • F-100's don't even exist any more; 150 is the lowest rating
          • Chrysler drove the LRT through the same hole...carrying capacity was something like 2,300 lbs *NM*

• Question: I am currently working on the MPC Grumpy's Vega and really am enjoying it. But even though I am not worried about building a completely accurate representation of a real car, this is way off. So I am wondering what kit is available that is the most accurate ....
  • Nothing with any really correct detail until the early Eighties Monogram kits. The mid/late Seventies magazine articles on Pro Stockers seldom show chassis or rear suspension details, those guys guarded that info *NM*
    • There are SOME chassis photos of Grumpy's pro stock Vega in the book on Grumpy's Toy. *PIC*
      • But that book was published just prior to Jenkins' passing. Period articles on those cars include little to nothing!

• Two questions about Tamiya paints...can I spray TS paints on bare plastic (no primer) and can I clearcoat TS paints with Duplicolor clear?? Thanks. *NM*
  • I don't know about the clear but I do sometimes spray TS over bare plastic. Mostly small parts such as engine accessories. *NM*
    • Ditto. But I like Tamiya spray primer under it for car bodies. *NM*
  • I have used Dupli-color 1K clear over Tamiya spray with no ill effect.. *NM*
  • I regularly spray Tamiya TS over bare plastic, most recently their Yellow on the DDA ABS plastic 1971 Holden, the Candy Lime green over AMT's 1970 Dodge Coronet Pro Street light tan plastic, no issue with either. *NM*

  • Originally offered an accessory in the Buick Special wagons in 61/62, IIRC
    • The engine was carried over from the Buick wagon to the Nova, but more of it is plated in the Nova. It interchanges with the one in the Double Dragster kit *NM*

• The amt or mpc country charger or dukes chargers. Why was the rear valance panel split? They tooled up a new body to make a correct dukes car why not fix that part. *NM*

  • The strangest part is that none of the 1968-70 annual kits on which the Dukes kit was based had a split in the rear valence panel. *NM*
    • The early kits were made over here, production rate was probably a lot slower which allowed more time for each item to be pulled out of the tool. Tooling wear might enter into it also...look at how many versions were produced...literally millions of kits and promos *NM*
      • The production rate had to be much higher back then. When the DoH came out, they must’ve have been cranking out those kits by the 100’s of thousands. *NM*

• I am finishing up the MPC '67 GTO, and the rear bumper mounting tabs and tail light lenses seem to interfere with each other. Did I do something wrong, or is that the way it is? And yes, I mounted the tailliight lenses with the large tab pointing up. *NM*

• If you are building a Hemi car, you don't want those anyway. Not even all of the wedge engine cars used those headers; the more conventional style worked as well and were easier to build *NM*
