• What am I doing wrong. After painting and polishing a car, then applying bare metal trim, then I try to clean or wax the body the bare metal leaves black streaks in the paint. I can get most of it off but in some cases seems to permanently stain the paint. Frustrated! *NM*
  • Sounds like maybe the paint was too soft to do the polishing. I'd wait a bit and see if it cures a bit more. Maybe some additional polishing will remove the stains. *NM*
  • What jumped out at me is the word polishing... If you are just smoothing out the paint and not using any polish compound I am not sure why that is happening unless there is foil adhesive outside of the trim on the paint you are applying. *NM*
    • You are polishing aluminum. It always leaves a black residue. Do not polish the BMF. Only wax. Or better yet, clear over the BMF. *NM*

  • I always put a coat of wax on before I add the foil, the wax protects the paint. Novus 1 works very well. Also, make sure the paint is fully cured, even if you have to wait a few extra days :) *NM*
