• Question: I've tried to successfully remove the wheels from the axles on Mustang II and mid '70's Firebird promos. All of them shattered into many pieces. How do I successfully remove promo wheels from (thick) axles and leave the wheels in one piece? Thanks. *NM*
  • Are you twisting them as you pull the wheels off? The mid ‘70’s Firebird promos in ‘75 and on had regular kit type two piece wheel backs. *NM*
    • The wheels I'm referring to have a thick hub molded to the wheel, they are one piece. I've tried twisting and also pulling. Twisting shatters them and pulling pulls the centers out out the wheels. The Firebird ones were from 1974 and the Mustang II's were I believe 1974, 75 *NM*
      • I’ve had some success heating the axles up with a soldering iron and then pulling them off. Otherwise, it’s a tough situation when the plastic gets brittle like that. *NM*
• Regarding 1965 and 1966 Shelby Mustang GT 350's, probably the 1966's, were any of them painted white with RED stripes? If yes, what were the colors of the interiors. Thanks. *NM*

  • All beautiful Barry! I'm planning to build a blue w/ white stripe Cobra II to go with my other 2 Cobra II's. I like that you built a Mustang with Edgewater on the sides. I used to race at that track in the 1980's and early 1990's. I still live just a few miles away from it. *NM*
    • I blt the Edgwater Mustang for Ed Crowder when he was track manager there. I ran at that track one time. I usually ran at Kil-Kare in the '60's. *NM*

  • I'd agree that the 62 Poncho is a highpoint but I'd also add the 57 Chrysler, 60 Starliner & 58 Edsel to that list...67 Impala, 62 Belair, 66 Riviera, 71 Dodge & 71 Duster are all more than livable......lol. *NM*
  • It is really a great kit - I can't speak for the M&M team but I gather that Catalina, 300-C and Starliner were farthest along when the greedheads from RC blew it all up

    • Revell's simple build n play snapper.... IMHO, it's a pity that Revell never took it step further to produced a more detailed version, as they absolutely nailed the look and feel of the real thing. *NM*

      • That’s where I was in 1993, when I bought my first Mustang, a 5.0 LX coupe with 5-speed manual.
      • You forgot the Firebird Trans Am. The ‘98 -‘02 Firebird Trans Am Ram Air WS6 was the hot ticket back then. Faster than any Mustang unless it was a Cobra. The WS6 version pumped out 325hp and was good for very low 13’s at 108 mph. *NM*

        • I looked at the GM offerings. They had just about 0 visibility to the outside world. The Camaros were butt-ugly, IMHO. The Firebird Was a LOT more money than a Mustang GT. Plus I vowed to never buy another GM car back in around '96 (due to continuous horrible quality) *NM*

  • Liver of Sulfur is the classic darkening patina for bronze, brass, and copper. Depending on the surface, the strength of the solution, and the application method, it will produce a golden brown to a burgundy black patina. *NM*

• The new Mustang was introduced today in 1964. We pedaled our bikes down to see it. For the next few years it seemed like every driveway had a Mustang in it. *NM*

• Ever hear of a resin company called Design Detail, out of Seattle? I acquired some of it product line last night at an IPMS club meeting.
  • That "company". like so many, was actually one guy named Morris Johnson. RnD ended up with many of the patterns and such when he decided not to continue, but we never issued any of his product line. *NM*

• It's not really a reissue. It's a clone. Not having an original on hand, I'm not certain as to parts interchangeability, but they should be close. *NM*
• Except that this is just a 3-D rendering and not a real car. I wonder whether on actual 1:1 cars done in this style, if the cooler actually has fluid flowing through it, or if it's just hung out there (with hoses not attached to anything functional) to achieve 'the look'... *NM*
