  • The chrome is excellent and Atlantis updated the tubing for brakes and plugs and fuel. They also included braided lines. I'm going to ask if I can buy the tubing package for my other 1/16th funny cars. *NM*

• The reason I was asking about the trim on the side of a '63 C10 was because I'd like to build something like this. Yes, I image search too much. For me, this is one of those 'floats my boat' *LINK* *PIC*
  • Mike L, I'm with you on the side trim. W/o it, any body color would be, well, bland, I think. Now, what color inside the side spear would work with the body color? Interior color? Engine color? Something way outside for effect? *NM*
    • I'd match that insert to the engine, brake calipers and interior, but I'm kinda boring in that respect. I like the body ONE color, and the accents a complimentary color. *NM*

  • Are you referring to the Steve Krontz who was in BSAC for a few years? That guy got out of modeling and into building 1:1 street rods. I think we saw him at Goodguys a couple of years ago. *NM*

• Was '63 the only year GM put this trim on the side of the C10 like the truck in these pics? *PICS*
  • It was on 1960 thru 1966 Chevys. My search does not show it on the GMCs. My dad had a 65 lwb with the same side trim. *NM*
    • '60 and '61 had a different style trim as depicted in the AMT '60 kit, and SMP '60 and '61 annual kits. AMT '63 annual has the trim pictured *NM*
      • That's odd. This is a '63. I didn't remove any trim. It was just plain like this. *PICS*
        • Must have been the '62 then. One of them definitely has the trim *NM*
          • 62 kit has trim ,63 kit does not ,62 & 63 promos have trim *NM*
        • Couldn't some of the cheaper trucks come without trim? *NM*
          • No trim is more work friendly, nothing to snag and hang off the side *NM*
            • Google image shows plenty of bare base models,maybe a fender bade but that's it *NM*

  • The reason I was asking was because the Revell '64 & '66 kits don't have the trim and I like the way that trim looks rather than without. *NM*

  • According to the internet, THAT Caddy was actual rented from a private owner, for the movie shoot. They had already built the Ecto-1, so they rented the "before" car for the one scene. The "original" color of THE Ecto-1 was a metallic brown. *LINK* *PIC*

• On YouTube there are young people repairing model trains, completely disassembling, cleaning, soldering etc. so I'm wary of making generalizations regarding generations. *NM*
  • Great point. The generational thing is nonsense. It seems that “boomers” are called out online more than any other generation, yet the demographic is made up of individuals, just like all other demographics. It’s silly but online, especially, it’s a thing. *NM*
• Back in the middle of the last century, the car hobby centered around the brass era. Few would have expected we'd be considering the cars in the parking lots at those events to be worthy of collecting today. The hobby must keep evolving. *NM*
  • One automotive writer in the '80s quoted another automotive writer who said, back in the '60s,that NO ONE in the future would be interested in collecting any car built after...1966!

• I see younger folk, and women as well at shows in my area, immigrants as well. It seems to me hobbyists have been complaining about the graying of the hobby for a decade or more. *NM*
• You can add EV's to that list. I recall the whole "Ricer" think of 20+ years ago, driven by the American Muscle crowd. Nowadays there's a constant barrage of sneering memes on social media probably posted by the same American Muscle crowd.
• I think there still are people working on electronics, either fixing up old devices or making new ones. *NM*

  • Around here if the cops even get a whif of something like this happening, they stop it before it can get organized. Too many times these things turn into street, or even town, "takeovers". Street racing, drifting, blocking roads have become problems. Almost everything now
