• My next build will be the MPC 34 Slammer modified. Are there other kits in this series, and if so, could they be re-issued? Not the Super Stockers.Thanks. *NM*
  • There's a '36 Chevy coupe, a Vega, and a Pinto. I know Round 2 has reissued the Vega and Pinto, not sure about the Chevy *NM*

• Trivia question for the Mopar freeks: Would the '65 Coronet have been available with the Magnum 500 (chrome) wheels when new?
  • I don't think those existed in '65 or even '66. The earliest ones were all chromed (even the outer hoop) with no trim ring *NM*
  • According to the linked page from Mopar Connection, the wheels were first offered OEM by Chrysler on B and C bodies in 1967. *LINK*

  • Back in the 80s I had rode the Mac Woods Dune Rides at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. They were converted International Travelalls back then. *NM*

  • I'm not sure about the Packard grille, MCG offers a photo etch 1938 and a 1940 LA Salle grille, each set available in 1/24th and 1/25th. *NM*
    • I looked at these again and the grilles come with a resin grille surround too. *NM*
      • I have somebody's Lasalle grill that is supposed to fit the '36 Ford, but it doesn't fit very well, so I never used it. *NM*
        • I fit mine to an AMT 36, but it did take some work to fit the resin piece to the body and the grille to the resin. It worked out ok, then painted the body and am not real happy with the color. Now which moving box is it stashed in? *NM*
        • If you were trying to fit it to the AMT kit and it didn't fit well it may have been designed for the Monogram kit or vice versa *NM*
          • Mine didn't fit the AMT, but I never thought to try the Monogram. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion. *NM*
          • So I tried it on the Monogram kit, and it looks like it will fit real well. You have to cut off the 'chin' under the grill, but then I'm sure it will fit well. *NM*

  • As for the car, I'm thinking '40 Plymouth? AMT '41 would be close enough *NM*
  • Close...its a 1940(or maybe 1941) Chrysler, giveaways are the hood catch on the side,headlight surounds & pointed bumper, also smooth fenders, 1940 (&1941) DeSoto/Dodge & Plymouth all had stampings in their fenders. *NM*

• I had similar issues with ELO...brushed it on, let it sit, and when I brushed the ELO to loosen the paint, it took off some of the plastic. The plastic was literally disintegrating.
  • I had that happen also with ELO. The plastic "delaminated" as though it was plywood. Never seen that happen before. *NM*
    • I've never had an issue... most let it sit to long. You'll have to babysit it , put it on in small area let it sit for a few minutes then wash it off with 91% alcohol. Once off then rinse it in warm water the whole car. *NM*
      • Ditto - but test every time in a small area if you are not sure *NM*
  • There are other products that work just as good, if not better. Ever since it ruined that Eldo, I never used it again. Heck, even brake fluid, which many here frown upon, didn’t give me any problems on Johan plastic even on another Eldo snap kit I stripped. *NM*
    • Jo-Han plastic is brittle to start with. I've got a '65 Chrysler that someone else stripped before I got it; I did so again and the thing is like a potato chip, you just look at it and it crumbles *NM*

  • Cool! Is it actually 1/24 scale? It looks larger , like 1/20 or so as compared to the cars in the background but may be due to it being in foreground and depth/perspective *NM*
    • I'd say it's very close to 1/24... Maybe something like 1/23.5... Definitely much smaller than 1/20

    • The tires and wheels are more typical for an open-wheel modified. You need to find some "stock car" wheels and tires. The ones
      • So it is mystifying to me why Round2 still puts these wheels/tires in their closed car Modified stockers, such as the '65 Chevy, '64 Galaxie, and the Falcon. *NM*
        • Because it's an old tool and they will most likely never update it. You can build them OOB, but they can sure be improved, just like any old kit. *NM*
        • They're duplicating the kit as it was originally produced *NM*
  • I'm partial to the tires found in the "MPC" Super Stockers, vs the 1/20 scale slicks in the AMT Modfieds

  • I don't dispute that they look cartoonish, but if you lower the ride height it helps.... *PIC*

    • Some of them are disliked because the modifications made the 3-in-1 versions impossible to reissue. But most of those hadn't sold well in reissues not long before *NM*

  • What are you trying to strip - ?
  • Castrol Super Clean (CSC). Don't buy Purple Power--crappy knockoff--doesn't work. CSC strips chrome including the Lacquer undercoat in most cases--when it doesn't, I use ELO. *NM*
  • Sometimes known as just plain "Super Clean", still works great, will strip paint and strip chrome down through the clearcoat to bare plastic *NM*

• I finished painting the interior details of the 73 Grand Am. All that I need to do is wait for paint to come in the mail for the body and the engine and paint the wheels and make the axles and wheel backs. .......... *PIC* .....
