  • Looks like an oil bath air cleaner. The snorkel one has a heat riser tube, as seen in service literature. The 4x4 version actually has two air cleaner options, must be challenging to cover all the years and trim levels. Got the engine and chassis together on my `67 *PIC*

• Anyone remember the name of the AMT 37 Chevy Bonniville Racer. It had a set of front fender panels to fill in the area the front fenders would normally be. Wondering if those two pieces were in other releases of the 37 Chevy Kits. *NM*

  • Besides the fender panels the Salt Shaker also had a lowered front axle that was unique to that release. *NM*
  • It also had filler pieces for the rear of the chassis, so you couldn't see around the back wheels to the other side of the car. None of those special parts ever surfaced in later issues of the '37 *NM*

  • from what I have heard, cheap ones are not worth investing in, get a Sherline or similar especially for the tiny detail work you will probably want to do for model use. *NM*
  • Look for a used "name brand" item, steer clear of Snap-On East (Harbor Freight) stuff; poor quality, no replacement parts available in most instances *NM*
  • Taig and Sherline both have good reputations, but will push $500 pretty quickly. *NM*

    • This was a mockup using the chassis/engine layout I built for the "Plum Crazy" 1957 Chevy Gasser story I did for Scale Auto around 2010 or so....I always liked the '56 best among the tri-five chevies....but the article brief was to use Revell's '57 Black Widow as the basis.. *NM*

  • You're going to get a lot of different answers.I'll start with Tamiya products. *NM*
  • My way,,,,,,
  • For tape I use 3M Blue. Reasonably inexpensive and it's just about everywhere (just make sure it's 3m!)......
  • I like Frog Tape. Tamiya white primer is terrific, but pricey. I use it for bodie where a smooth finish is important. For all other parts I like Duplicolor sandable primer; it is available in several colors. For resin I feel cleaniiness is more important than primer brand

    • Been using Gunze primers & clears for quite a while now. Hands down, better than Tamiya (which is saying a lot 'cause I use Tamiya alot, too.) *NM*
      • Gunze Surfacer is a spray primer that comes in various viscosities--500, 1000, 1200, 1500. Five hundred is very thick, 1500 is air-brush thin. Black, gray, white, red oxide. *NM*

  • I use dupli color white fine primer, 3m blue tape and Tamiya tape.and all kinds of paint. *NM*
  • I use Duplicolor filler primer for bodywork, and then Tamiya primer for final unifying primer coat before paint *NM*
  • For a crisp edge, 3M blue fineline - there is also an orange that I found at the jobber
  • 3M FineLine and their blue Edge Lock painters tape are good *NM*
• My friend PintoKing called yesterday to tell me that an acquaintance of mine has some old magazines for sale... I wasn't really interested until he mentioned he had a lot of "small magazines"... You know, the type we used to hide in our books in class... WELL!!!
  • About the musty smell a quick Google search suggested : a) Airing them in fresh air. b) Baking soda in a sealed box for 48-72 hours (repeat if necessary). c) Kitty litter. d) Dryer sheets (this last one in my case would just replace an annoying scent for another one)... *NM*
  • Ray..........an easy way to remove the smell from your home is to place the magazines back in the box, take the box to your local post office and send the lot to me here in Oz....I'll even cover the postage...jeeze I'm helpful, ain't I?.........lol. *NM*
  • IIRC, you can find a product named Air Sponge at Canadian Tire and it works remarkably well as we had one in the unfinished part of our basement and there was no musty smell once my Dad got one. *NM*

        • my girlfriend used to live right down the streets from the Residents and we went to a number of parties at their compound on Gough St in SF. Snakefinger used to live in her building.
          • I get the streets mixed up sometimes, she lived on Gough and Grove, the Residents lived up Grove street, not Gough. *NM*
            • That would have been cool. That was the Commercial Album that was released in 1980. Snakefinger was a really underrated guitarist, both in his own work and his contributions to The Residents. Only time I got to see him was on The Thirteen Anniversary Tour. *NM*
              • he used to perform solo gigs and with his band over at Berkeley Square in the east bay. They were pretty quirky too. *NM*
