I started a fotki account not long after the board went live (gee, well before the millionth hit) and had tons of pics stored there.

After my initial email address clogged with spam, I changed it, then eventually killed it.

Years later, our credit cards got hacked. We ended up changing the account numbers (Royale PITA).

So, when they tried to contact me about the dead credit card... I had no idea. Then one day, all the pics were tiny. Then, the account was gone.

After discussions with their tech support, there was nothing they could do. I still have most of the shots in a raw state (retirement project to exhume.)

Lesson learned.
