I am sure they use multi piece bodies for the same reason Revell did on their 57 Ranchero, 57 Cadillac, and Futura, etc. - to get the model in a flat box.

But yeah - they are a bear to work with. I think they would sell at least twice as many models world wide if they went to a simpler body like we are used to on cars.
