With the oil pickup almost touching the bottom of the sump, that's not realistic. But to answer the original question, no they are not needed and could do more harm than good on a modern engine. Many have extended oil change intervals to 10,000 miles due to the superiority

of today's lubricants. They are using sythetics of 0W-20 viscosity (and similar). I'm sure a quart of STP added to that would ruin it.
