Re: What would make a cat. converter go bad? My son in law is a Mr.Goodwrench, when the service engine light came on he did a scan, it was the converter and many people would just unhook and rehook the

battery cable to turn off the light. About 700 for the converter + service cost. My light only came on during wet weather and didn't effect the driving or miliage, just an annoying light on the dash. On my S10 years ago it went bad because it became clogged. The car is already repaired with a 14,000 price tag. The Encore GX is a complete different car from my Encore..The worst lemon I ever had was an 87 Grand Am that I think I replaced everything on, followed by an 79 Ford Fairmont Futura that was so bad I gave it back to Ford.
