I'd love it if they didn't break, but if it does happen you can piece the hubs back together then sleeve the hub with either evergreen tube or a short length of brass tubing. Quick pass with a chrome pen and Bob's your uncle.

Might have to turn down the axles on the po' boy lathe a bit to get a light interference fit.
