OT ?...what is the "dark web"? *NM*
In a nutshell, it's the very private part of the internet. The server addresses are not accessible by the public. At least that is my basic understanding. *NM*
According to Wikipedia (so you know it has to be right): The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets: overlay networks that use the Internet but require specific software, configurations, or authorization to access. *NM*
Who uses that? Government spy networks? *NM*
Criminal enterprises, conspiracy types, hackers, buyers of hacked info, extortion by capturing a site or system of a company or organization and blocking it behind an almost impossible access code until or unless the owner of the system pays the ransom, etc. *NM*
According to Google (as stated above, must be correct, right?🤨) you are describing the "deep web", which is more nefarious than the "dark web". *NM*
I have been told by Norton, that my email address has been found on the dark web. Is this a problem? They want to sell me more security. *NM*
Do not reply to a notification online. That is a favorite way to get you to respond with your info. Go to the Norton address direct. If you do not have Norton, they are almost certainly someone trying to get into your system by getting you to respond and pay money. *NM*
By direct to Norton I mean do not use any link or address in the online notification. If you have Norton, use the address you already have and the user name and code to access your account there. Then ask customer service about that online request to see if it is legit and
Your email is public - it's shown here on the board. Everybody on the planet already knows it. Nothing to worry about. *NM*
Sorry I did not mean to come across as brash ---
Every couple days Norton is trying to upsell me on something. It's getting tiresome. When I klik on "don't ask me again" I expect to not be asked again, not asked again in a couple days. It's annoying. *NM*
Guess that's what's going on with me. Thanks. *NM*
