• I picked up a copy of the AMT (former MPC) 29 Ford woody/roadster pickup kit at the Kemps' meet a couple weeks ago. Thought it might be cool to do a simple flathead powered hot rod quick build... Well I was perusing the kit contents when I noticed something odd....
  • It was apparently intentional. See the shadow of the fender on the bed in the box art. Another odd thing is that they label it a "Woody"? *NM* *PIC*
    • A station wagon body is included also *NM*
    • The Monogram bed does not fit much better than the AMT bed. It does fit the roadster fenders better with some cutting out between the fenders. However, the Monogram bed is not as "deep" as the AMT bed. Won't look right. *NM*

  • Kit seems to be missing a filler pice between the fender and the bed. Or maybe the fender is just supposed to be wider. *NM* *PIC*

    • AMT was just too cheap to do it right. There is no filler piece missing. *NM*

        • After studying the situation a bit more, the problem is the shape of the fenders, not the width of the pickup bed.... Adding the stringers would not fill the gap between the top of fenders and the bed sides..... *NM* *PIC*
  • The Monogram pickup has "stringers" molded as part of the fender piece, to raise the bed slightly...
  • Could be wrong but I thought that kit has always been like that with the gap between the fender & p/u bed. *NM*
    • Probably owing to its origins as the sedan. The sedan body does still fit that fender unit *NM*

    • I bought a couple of NOS original (The Wild Ones) issue of the kit from a vendor at the dragstrip, back in the mid 1970's.... I built the woody, so I never realized the issue with the pickup bed/fender interface.... I gave the second kit to a friend..

  • Those fenders are designed for sedan or woody. If you want a '29 pickup or roadster pickup you need a Revell kit. Those kit fenders are designed as pickup. *NM*
    • You are correct... I have come to the conclusion that I need a Revell fender unit, so that I can transplant the rears onto the AMT (MPC) piece.... I just don't want to deal with Revell's fiddley pita suspension. *NM*
      • Marty, question. Are you building a roadster pickup? I personally wouldn't use any of the (AMT) "woody" fender unit. I HATE that molded in frame and posable "clunky" front axle. I have an ALL REVELL version started....PIC
        • '60 Ford pickup has those wheel covers with nice new plating! '63 might have them too, I'm not 100% certain *NM*
          • Yes, the '63 has them. For me, the '60 is just a "pipe dream" since I can't seem to get them ANYWHRE! But I keep trying. *NM*
        • Have decided to just toss everything back in the box and forget about it... I have a couple of the Revell kits, but have zero desire to deal with all the fiddley crap that goes into trying to build one. *NM*
