The older the better for the Firebird if it is the AMT or MPC, the tool is showing its age - Upcoming Revell '68 Firebird is really the best in scale

Followed by the Revell '66 GTO, Revell '69 GTO (ex Monogram) - the '70 TA engine is nice as well. The '66 and '68 are 1/25 scale, but Revell is a known cheat in this area (to the good), and pumps the engine about 10% for better 'fill' when the hood is up. IMO, if I'm doing a GP, and there is that massive hood, I'd go for the '69 GTO engine and push the scale a little..

Early Pontiac engines in 1/24 - I am a fan of the Revell/Monogram '64 GTO, very nicely engraved and has the details right, good for an early Monogram flatbox rod, or, for slamming into a scratch build with a JoHan '55-6 Pontiac. For 1/25 projects, god bless Mueller for that excellent 389 tripower in the AMT (?) '64 GTO hybrid snap kit (ex-PL) it is a great choice for the new AMT R2 Craftsman Plus '65 GTO for example, or AMT annuals.
