I would make the battery (power source) external. That's a lot less work.

you could run a wire from a base up through the bottom of the car. I would near a tire, or make the tire the power contact to the base. The switch would be externall as well. I have seen some people use a hand remote to activate the lights in different ways but that goes in to more sophisticated electronics. (youtube can show some of those)

Trying to cram a battery and a switch into a 1/25 scale model would be a lot of work. If you make a base you could hide those under diorama pieces, like an oil drum or a tool box, etc.

I noticed in the Detroit coverage that some of the models have working lights. They look really cool when on display. If Round2 were to offer a light up kit for model cars, would any of you buy them? *NM*
