When did people start putting air bags on cars to get them to sit on the ground at car shows? *NM*
If I remember correctly, airbags came around mid to late 90s. *NM*
Gene Winfiels built the Reactor in '65 using a late '50s Citroen DS air suspension. That was probably the first "custom" ,I'd say. BUT Cadillac, Buick , AMC and maybe a couple other car companies offered it in the late '50s. *NM*

1959 Cadillac had them as an option, the Ala Kart built in 1957 had airbags inside coils........there was a wrecked 59 Cad convert here in Oz with shot airbags layin' frame behind a local gas station in the late 1970's....has given me a distinct dislike of that look since. *NM*
'58 was the big year for air suspension; most if not all GM makes had it, as well as Ford. Many dropped it after the one year (if not during the year), none of the rest went beyond '59. The electronics (among other things) just weren't good enough back then *NM*
I don't think it was strictly the electronics - more inside
Interestingly lowriders used hydraulic systems for years. *NM*
