Whenever people (rightfully) praise rail service in Europe and compare to America, I think it’s important to keep context in mind. European countries are much smaller and much more densely populated than the US (for example Germany has 7X the population density vs USA)…

And thus has more need and usage of rail. They also tend to be taxed at a greater rate, meaning that it’s much easier for them to provide premium rail service to their citizens, and a necessity, really, because if everyone drove cars the traffic would be untenable

Just food for thought. I agree that it would be a good idea to bring high quality rail service to our part of the world, but costs would have to be considered.
