I'm no expert on those cars , but that might make more sense given they are from the same season.

the Stepp car also has some sudo brake ducts in front of the rear wheels and the front fenders are completely different. Plus there is a lack of Manufacture decal on the Carlton car. I had not given the Cricket any thought. They are not the same car, that's for sure.
