• Revisiting a post&thread subject from a couple of weeks back....
  • I could never figure out way they wouldn't combine the two mags....Have Fine Scale in the front then pages of advertisers flip it over to do Scale Auto. You basically use the same advertisers. may have to add a few pages. *NM*
    • They could gain the lost subscribers do that, so that should make up what they lost. Just spit balling but you never know. *NM*
      • And the second drawer in the editor's desk will be filled with "what are all those toy cars doing in here?" letters no doubt
  • To me Kalmbach has been on a steady decline..........
  • For what you get, the cover price of FSM is way too high. *NM*
    • For me, I realistically know that I won’t get around to reading the non-car stuff, rightly or wrongly. So if I won’t read over half the magazine, I won’t subscribe to it - simple as that. I will buy an individual copy if there is something of particular interest. *NM*
      • This is pretty much where I am. In all fairness, I do find it a good source for materials, tools, tips/trick on occasion. *NM*
  • To be totally honest when the pulled the plug on Scale Auto I pretty much gave up on them. Then to squish car coverage into Fine Scale was a insult
  • I think the big question is why did SAE fail?
    • Many of the mags on your list are NOT found on bookstores or hobby store shelves. Many of them don't print more than a few thousand of any issues.
    • I’m curious, though, how do the $100 kits compare in terms of detail, accuracy, and parts count to a $30 car kit?

    • There was a larger pullback in publishing. I can imagine the pitch meeting "we can just fold it into FSM"....
      • I don't think you can blame Kalmbach for the decline in the print media industry. They are just operating from the business case that works for them. I understand that completely, they are not a charity, but neither am I. If the content isn't there, my $ & ¢ go elsewhere *NM*
  • Well folks, you are looking at the elephant in the room. The computer with its vast advantages in size and number of pictures, same day coverage of events, online special interests interaction with other likeminded folks, product purchases without driving to the nearest
    • 30 years ago, I used to "hang out" at a couple of LHS on Thursday and Friday nights. Sort of like going to 'Cheers'. Both of them are long gone. The LHS left in DFW are mostly train or R/C stores, or chain stores.
