Two of those cars, Herb McCandless in the "Brooklyn Heavy" car, and Mel Yowell in Billy Stepp's "Billy the Kid" car were owned by 2 of the more shady people in racing. Stepp was a Dayton Area Mobster, tthough never convicted of any crimes, and Brookly Heavy aka Rufus Boyd who was the mastermind of, at the time. the largest drug bust in the history of New York City!
