• Awhile back, someone here was looking for a certain size of the Goodyear Blue Streak Stock Car Special tires. I found 2 different sizes of those tires in my stash. The most common one is the larger, while the smaller one is pretty rare. I have ....... *PICS* .....
  • Those are actually the same tire. The difference is apparently shrinkage due to the difference in material used for the smaller one *NM*
    • I'm not doubting you Mark, but it's quite strange that my 3 smaller tires have shrunk exactly the same amount from the 1 larger one that I have in the pic. Still, if anyone can make use of the shrunken ones that I have, they can have them. I think that I have 4 smaller ones. *NM*
    • After looking at the pics again, I'm not so sure. Look at the center part of the tire that gets cut out of the tire. One has a backwards 2 molded into it and the other has a backwards 6 or 9 molded in. Odd. *NM*
      • The same size ones are likely from one kit, all molded at the same time from the same material. The numbers refer to the cavity in the tire mold. Tire molds have multiple cavities (24 or so); the number is to ID the cavity for QC purposes *NM*
    • Could it be possible that the tire with the shallower marks is the copy of the original mpc tire made by polar lights? Just curious... *NM*

        • It do look like they did from what I can see... the wide one is probably from the original mpc tooling with the deep tread marks, supplied in their nascar kits as well as the '79 Dodge pumping iron and original Datsun pickup kits and...(pics)
    • When those tires get old they get about as hard as styrene, and shrink. The same thing happens to the tires that came in the MPC modified kits. Enough so that the shrunk ones make a good "pony tire" for the left front on those modifieds. *PIC*
      • The first issue of all those MPC modified kits did include a floater tire. The mold must have disappeared, as none of the reissues have it *NM*

          • The early modifieds may have had all four the same, the late models (GTO, Monte Carlo, Camaro, etc) definitely had the floater. I've got a few of them *NM*
            • Yes, the modifieds definitely had all four of the same 'dirt' tires, whereas the Super Stocker series had three of the same tires as the modifieds and a 'floater' tire with circumferential grooves for the left front. The reissue Super Stockers had 4 of the same tires.
  • It was me Scott and if your parting with them I'll take them I'll take the chance. I know the smaller ones are for sure smaller and shrinkage couldn't get them that small. You said you ordered those tires on line? Man I've got more oddball tires I could have sent your way. *NM*
