Those conversions tended to utilize the front half of a 4x4 chassis, with the load bed much like a trailer. They were front-wheel-drive. *NM*

We've got a trailer with long fenders that just sit down in a slot and they have holddowns on the ends like the ones on a Jeep hood! If you haul low car just take fender off and slide back on when get out! *NM*
WOW..... All great observations and ideas but I have one question would the transfer over to a Chevy truck be worth that effort to build a FWD vehicle. Something for me to think about. ***INSIDE***
The car hauler I mentioned just uses the standard front axle and transfer case of the 4x4, so it drives and steers normally. They do this to get a low load floor without a driven rear axle to get in the way. Eldorado/Toronado FWD drivetrains are also popular for this, *NM*
