It's always interesting how different companies did things. 1960s Mustangs also didn't have separate front frame rails, but a lot of that area was still painted black.

Specifically, if I'm remembering correctly, the inside of the engine bay and the outside of the front inner fenders was painted black, which would have also made the front subframe black too, at least on the sides and top.
