I picked up a cheap buy at an IPMS club's annual kit auction last nightt. It's an unbuilt AMT 289 Cobra, the Reggie Jackson reissue, but I have a question-it's molded in bright medium green...isi it rare?
Don't know if I'd consider it "rare", but I remember building that kit back in the mid-1970s. Mine came molded in white. *NM*
That kit is from the Lesney ownership era. They issued it in a second box alongside (or shortly after) that one; it is green also. Lesney liked molding kits in color...
I have both light- and medium green Cobras from that release - straight repro of the white styrene modern classic *NM*
Except the stock wheels-the RJ issue has them modified to fit wider tires *NM*
Mark, did the wheels get re-tooled subsequently or just stay wide? I have two of the subsequent AMT/Ertl reissue and those wheels don't look realistic *NM*
The outer face of the wheel isn't changed much. It's widened on the back side, it could be narrowed on the back side *NM*
Yep, I built the AMT/Matchbox version, # PK 4174 in a lovely bright green, so it got painted green, still use the box for storage & yeh those wheels stick out too far but c' la' vie......lol.j *NM*
Read or jeard years ago that the 'molded in color' era came about due to a national retail chain wanting them in color.
AMT did just fine with (nearly) everything molded in white. Jo-Han did annuals in color from about '61-'63, then were all in white for the rest of their annual kits *NM*
Yep, I restored 4 JoHan 1963 gluebombs that were in light orange, light green & pale blue........used Lindberg & Revell kits more recent kits to update/restore all 4. *NM*
AMT caved in later on some of the Trophy and Craftsman kits

FWIW, I remember you have to bring the wheels/tires in under the fenders. They stuck out too far. *NM* *PIC*
