Parts count. The more parts, the more expensive it is to develop, that is why the spears and hood dog are molded on.
Gold dog used to mean a specific engine, but later years was used to signify a truck with all Mack components, engine, transmission, suspension, axles, etc.

- Why make the locating holes for the side mirrors so huge? They almost cut the door frame into pieces. Be better if they were either skinned over or just smaller. *NM* *PIC*
