  • The few times I did it, I used platinum gray Duplicolor with a quick blast of "sealer primer" on top of that. I try to avoid kits molded in red/orange/yellow and look for another issue in white or gray *NM*
  • Depends on the final color, really. I would try the mild 'standby' automotive primers first like Plastikote T-235 as close to the finish color as you can get
  • Orange plastic AMT '40 Ford, sanded, sprayed an older version of Krylon flat silver, then Krylon purple, no bleed through *NM*
    • Would you even notice orange bleed thru into purple? Usually if the base/paint are kind of the same color, you won't have trouble. *NM*
      • Earth tones (orange, red, brown, probably yellow) tend to overpower other colors. The purple might work though, depending on how dark it is *NM*
        • It always seemed to me that it was the red dye they use in the red/purple/orange plastic that was a major problem (sometimes). Since orange is about 1/2 red, and purple is about 1/2 red, I just wouldn't ever expect much of a problem with orange bleeding into purple.
      • My test showed the orange giving the normally cool-tone purple more violet-ish. Even Krylons and Rustoleums are losing opacity as they get reformulated, ergo increased chance of bleed through *NM*
        • I'd be looking hard at decanting those for an airbrush, and going to a compatible tinted flat undercoat *NM*
