• Question: I just purchased this kit and the tires feel oily and sticky. Should I clean them with alcohol. I don't want to damage them and I have different tires if I have to use them but I would like to use these. PIC
  • Wow, have never seen nor heard of that kit, boxart shows what appears to be a "lightweight" version of the E Type, I'd carefully test with some Methylated Spirits on a Q tip, do the tyres leave an oily stain if left on anything?, if so then I wouldn't use them. *NM*
    • They don't leave anything just feel icky. I don't think l had ever seen it before either but for $20 l couldn't pass it up. *NM*
  • Keep it simple, start with water and dish soap. If that cleans them off, let them sit a few days and see if they start leaching that stuff again *NM*
    • I should have thought about that. I'll give it a shot. *NM*
  • I would not use them. I think that's an early sign of decay. Bad rubber/vinyl only gets worse over time! *NM*
    • I agree with Bill - can you find some resin replacements? Cool kit, by the way. *NM*
    • That's probably the best solution. The tread look so nice but l have another set that will work. *NM*
    • X3. Whatever's going on will continue to do so after it's built. *NM*
  • Super long shot: vintage Revell or Monogram slot car tires
    • Well, l am using some wire wheels and have tires that are a little wider. I just liked the looks of these. *NM*
    • The vintage ones are getting thin on the ground. Modern reproductions of the old tires are silicone, usually cast in molds that are open on the back side leaving the inside sidewall looking messy *NM*
      • The guys doing the tires are not typically casters by trade in my observation
  • Terry, as I mentioned the boxart appears to show the "lightweight" E Type that was raced at LeMans, etc.....does the kit have those wheels & any other "race" parts or mention the lightweight program? [ *NM*
    • There is no referrance to it being a lightweight. It does have the rims shown on the box but I am going to use some wire wheels. *NM*
  • Possibly a rebox of the Heller Cunningham Jaguar *NM*
    • Cliff....you get the prize.....well done, I've never seen the Airfix nor Heller original, thank you for increasing my knowledge..appreciated. *NM*
      • I’ve been looking for the Heller for ages. It has the Dunlop wheels and tires among other racing bits..
