That's a great question Bob. When I was much younger and had way more free time I used to write down a plan for each project but these days it depends...

It depends on the project. The simpler ones I just do what the kit or my brain comes up with. I think the more involved ones I would at least jot down a few notes on a post-it and put it in the box. But the more extended projects will require more notes and reference material.
