Might be a two step - or three...

Super Clean (in its most concentrated form) will get the chrome - but watch out, there are some diluted versions out there in convenience stores that do not have the same punch.

Imma fan of Zep Driveway and Concrete Cleaner concentrate, available at the various home centers. That is the most consistent. Bears repeating: Gloves for handling, plastic tub with a sealable lid, some sort of eye protection if you are using a brush, it does not feel good to even get a tiny drop in the peepers.

And never, ever soak resin in it. You might have gotten away with it in the past, but every week on FB is someone posting "I tried to strip yard paint from my irreplacable resin 1976 Blotzfire and now it is a ball of goo.... what happened?"

Now, depending on undercoat - a lacquer, varnish, or maybe even a urethane (?) you might have to go back in another paint removing bath/scrub.

Supeclean isn't much for lacquer, unfortunately. Eventually, it might loosen it. Probably a better move to use EZ Lift Off, that will loosen it pretty quickly. Again, can ionstruction, and I would not soak any parts in it, but it should get a lacquer or most enamels. Pro tip: if it seems like the surface is finally loose, then you can switch to the 91% ISO to finish the job. You CAN soak in that.

FWIW, the last step may not be mandatory, depending on your next move.

If you are painting it a color, or using a spray chrome, the slick finish of the undercoat may be a benefit. If you are sending out the plating to Matt, I'd get as much of the old stuff off, first.
