If your Continental is the Craftsman kit, it's a '59...

...and may have had red taillights in its original annual version. I have an annual '59 and probably still have a '60; not sure about the '59 but I'm 99 percent certain that the '60 has red taillights.
AMT did convert a number of kits when they did the Craftsman versions (Nova wagon being one) to simplify the kits and not have those tiny clear red sprues rattling around in the boxes (the parts weren't bagged then).
They also did that in the Seventies with a bunch of kits, when they were trying to cut positions in the factory. The clear parts trees were cut down too, eliminating side glass and some lenses, to allow more kits' clear shots to be run at once.
