And yes, the JoHan is much closer to the original than AMT, but there are mods to the AMT that will get it closer, if you feel like investing that much time in the body.

It shows me that the original shapes were very sophisticated in many of the cars we treasure most, and VERY difficult to replicate in scale. Personally, I never felt that cringe when I looked at the RR kit - most 1:1s that circulated my hometown were so rusted it was hard to tell what the original looked like.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest the first and best example of the new 3D technology giving us a bang-on kit would go to Revell for the excellent "big" '71 Mustang, and perhaps before that, the outstanding Foose '56 Ford pickup.

Back to the point, tho: I could imagine worse things than swapping a JoHan RR rear clip to the AMT/R2 body and then submerging in silicone for a proper resin transkit
