Something I read years ago in SAE--after reworking the hood to your satisfaction, pour some RTV to make a mold of it, and then cast your hood in resin!

Theory being that a new resin hood will have all of the changes in it, and those won't come undone as the new hood ages. You might still have issues with the new resin hood, but that's OK. You still have the molds for the new hood! You don't have to start from scratch.
