• I went to a model show yesterday and I over heard a conversation where a guy said that he uses..................
  • I hav actually taken sprue, put it in liqid cement and used it to make small parts like locking hubs. I used RTV to make the mold thn used the sprue /cement mix to make the part. Worked pretty well actually. *NM*

  • If you try the sprue glue, be careful how thin you make it as the thinner it is, the more it will shrink over time. *NM*
  • I wouldn't recommend the sprue glue technique, myself... My experience is that, if you create a thick gel, it takes forever to dry to a workable state... And regardless of how thick, shrinkage is inevitable. *NM*
  • Never tried anything with baking soda, as it absorbs moisture which can rear its head later. I used to be big on "sprue filler" but two-part epoxy filler cures much faster with no shrinkage *NM*
    • I'm not wild about concoctions using super glue, as that stuff tend to cure harder than the surrounding plastic making it harder to sand *NM*
  • A different take on the super glue/baking soda method. I've used super glue and the plastic powder you get from sanding parts. Dries hard and doesn't appear to shrink much. *NM*

  • sprue glue isn't the best especially if you use lacquer paint. I use the baking soda crazy glue combo for attaching
    • I use MicroBallons for filler with super glue. You can use it with epoxy resin too. Much easier to sand than CA and baking soda. R/C builers use micro balloons quite a bit, AFAIK. *NM*
  • Not sure if you can still buy the epoxy microballoons - but that is a good filler, too
