I'm about 90% certain that the minor size differences are due to shrinkage. Seems like the older they get, they lose a little bit in size.

So, how many variations of the original MPC hollow vinyl tires WERE there?

You want tires that differed with each retooling (and there are many!) try matching up AMT Trophy Series stock tires *NM*
