You can pack the joint tightly then drop a dab of water-thin CA to set it.

IMO, still better to get the joint as tight as possible to minimize the need for the fillers.

Aircraft guys like the sprue goo in certain applications, usually older tools of rarer aircraft that fall short of the Tamiya standard for fit and finish.
