Tim, I had a 79 Cordoba with the 360 E58 motor. Odd car, with a factory tach, 140MPH speedometer, high stall convertor, 3:21 gears in a 9 1/4 rear axle, and dual exhaust. To the best of my knowledge it was rated at 190 HP despite being mechanically identical to the earlier

360 rated at 245. What changed? Mostly the addition of the lean burn system by my reckoning. At the time there were two emissions systems, if your car had catalytic convertors then you got a regular ignition system along with an air pump. If your car didn't have cats (mine didn't) you got the lean burn system as a well as an air pump. I removed the lean burn, and put in a regular factory electronic ignition and replaced the carb with a pre-emissions unit. The difference in power was quite apparent. Did I gain the missing 55hp? That seems a bit of a stretch, but there is no doubt it picked up a lot just from that.
