I'm not super picky. I really want a '78 Mercury Monarch 4-door, but I'd settle for a Granada 2-door.
My parents were looking to replace their old '71 Plymouth Fury III in '78. Dad had done some research into buying a subcompact (Rabbit, Omni, Civic class), but I suppose he realized that having a slightly larger car, but smaller than the Fury, would be close to ideal.'
They went to the local Lincoln-Mercury dealer to look at Mercury Zephyrs, but the salesman there talked them into moving up a size class, which was the Monarch. They had two in their inventory that were near twins--both were white with green interiors and vinyl tops, but one had an AM/FM stereo radio, but no bumper guards, the other had AM/FM monaural radio, and had bumper guards front and rear. My parents bought that one.
Mileage in the old Plymouth with the 383 was a miserably 12 mpg. The Merc got all of 17 with the 250/6.
By 1984, I got handed down the Merc, due to my tearing up my '65 Mustang delivering pizzas. Eventually, the 250 in the Merc was pumping oil THROUGH the PCV valve, into the air cleaner...
I have a Lindberg 1/32 scale Granada coupe. Haven't converted it into a '78 4-door...
