I believe in the Shepherd Paine theory - "If it didn't look like that, it should"

I think it was his mind breaking diorama of the engine change in the B-24 (?) - the detail in the nacelle behind the engine mount that altered my modeling perspective the minute I saw it.

IIRC, other than the engine mount that was very close, the rest of the exposed B-24 guts were 'imagineered' - the hoses, harnesses and bits were all basically a scultpture within the model to give an effect, not to be a document.

There was something to see everywhere, but the composition held together as a complete work. (FWIW, not unlike a Ken Hamilton diorama) There is a lot of art theory behind that, but it is better seen than explained.

FWIW, for vintage annuals, I'm gnerally a fan of popping in the engine insert and locking the hood shut, unless the engine IS the 'story' - say, a 427 HR Galaxie lightweight - or it is simply entertainment of the era.

Later kits like Revellogram classic era - we're going to town.
