• Pedantic Andy in Oz ??..I know the Walts Puffer DD kit is a bit generic, but the kit Gilmer belt idler is low on the passenger side, near the crank pulley...or high beside the blower pulley on the drivers side...have never seen either, the idler pulley is "normally" on
  • well, I kept searching & found a pic showing the passenger side is correct tho' the kit piece is a little low, it'll work, I'll have to paint the chromed blower dull alloy, a pity as I like chrome......lol. *NM*
    • You must realize, those old drag cars were mostly built by "shade tree mechanics". Many engine parts would have been one-offs made just for that car. You couldn't open a Summit Racing catalog and order a blower drive kit back then. *NM*
      • A lot of those early supercharger applications were still using the original GMC end plates...
      • Bill & Mark...I'm 72,been playing with models since 8yrs old,1:1 cars since 15,put the cross ramed 318 poly in my 40 Dodge at 19,drag raced it & went to the 1st Oz Street Rod Nats in 1973, had not seen a low mounted idler pulley like in the kit, tho" I was aware of Gilmers

    • CD, thanks, that 1st pic explains my ? & answers a few other ?, the idler is lower than most I've seen due to the water transfer tube living where the idler lived in later setups,black frame,shinney shocks & firewall, light coloured seat & 12 spokes.....good info....lol.. *NM*
      • Interesting that you hadn't seen a setup like that before. I recall seeing a number of front engine drasters with the idler pulley located similarly... I do believe that I've also seen other model kits with that setup, though with my Swiss cheese memory, I could be mistaken. *NM*

  • As a kid in downriver Detroit I remember the car on display in Walts Auto Parts store on Van Born Rd. I believe. Wish I would have taken some photos it was a cool racer *NM*
