I had the Xacto version, and after a few stabs at the technique, managed to get semi-proficient at it.

But the smell of the melting styrene was pretty strong, and my engineer dad was not a fan of inhaling the fumes.

That said, there were pics on the back of the AW catalog that showed a few projects that looked like they came from Car Model articles - one with a Barracuda, one with a '66 or '67 Fairlane (!) and always wondered about those.
