It is still the best - it serves the plot (such as it is) well
In Response To: I’ve seen the movie a few times. I’ve seen the chase scene many more. I’m not a movie critic, but I liked it. The chase scene, with its sights and sounds, phenomenal. Even with the five hubcaps, the tri-five with the magical quarter panel that pops ()

At risk of getting all rock crit, the chase brings the first story arc to a conclusion.

From the killing of his partner, each scene gets him closer to the hit men - until they are (literally) in each others sights, banging fenders and the explosive ending.

Had a chance to see it on larger screens, where the sound and the environment are immersive, even more impressive given the 1968-69 film and audio technology.
