It was common inna day to cross promote films by releasing the movie score on vinyl. Most of them were unremarkable, save for the musicals (West Side Story, Dr. Zhivago, et. al.) if that was your thing.

While Schifrin's most recognizable track is the Mission Imposssible theme, his Bullitt score didn't even chart.

According to Wiki, the producers felt movie tracks were too subtle, so they were re-recorded after the fact to get a brighter, more 'pop' sound - the session list shows some Hollywood session heavyweights were in the room.

As enthusiasts began searching it out the cost went out of sight until in 2009, a group of European jazz enthusiasts secured Schifrin's original charts and re-recorded the tracks. Now it is available in a 2-disc set along with the original.
