Sounds similar to Lambrecht Chevrolet in Pierce, Nebraska. He would take his old inventory, and store it in an open field. He even did that to his trade-ins. Entire collection was sold off in 2012 or so.

EVERY classic car magazine in the U.S. covered the auction. Hot Rod found some interesting lots in the auction (a Corvair collector bought a first-gen coupe, then his jaw dropped when he discovered the hubcaps were still in the box in the trunk. A local resident noted that he tried to buy a '77 K10 pickup from Lambrecht in September '77, but he couldn't swing the payments, and Lambrecht just shuffled that truck out to the field instead of taking a small loss in selling it!) AutoWeek noticed a Chevette Scooter, selling for an auction price more than what was on the original window sticker, claiming that it was "the first time someone paid more than sticker price for a Chevette".) Hemmings and Hot Rod were both intriqued by the 'bookend' '65 Impala hardtops--one had a 409 under the hood, the other had a 396 upfront--both were stored inside the dealership)..

There was a Dodge dealer in Fort Worth that had a new '91 Dodge Spirit on the lot...in 1994. Then therewas the Jeep/Eagle store a few miles north, that had a loaded '93 Eagle Vision in its inventory...in '96.
