• MPC 1/25 Petty RR find today - question:
  • they all shared the same two piece chassis and basic engine/drivetrain. Different cylinder heads and valve covers were used to create the various engines. There were also different firewall adaptors, and rear bulkheads for each car, which allowed for the universal chassis
  • Not an expert, but one tidbit that I do recall is that the Southern Stocker series had a little length trimmed off of the rear section of the front chassis half, to accommodate the shorter wheelbase "new" cars.
    • The tires were retooled in a slightly smaller size for the s/s cars. With the bigger bodies getting reissued, the tires seem too small. *NM*
      • PPP have nice tires and wheels for the early-mid seventies cars. *NM*
        • Post script is that the early chassis bits are 'universal' - save for any torsion bar detail in the Petty RR (but not in the box, nor were the instructions)
          • Not sure, but the torsion bar piece wasn't in the "first wave" of those kits...
            • I can confirm the first issue Plymouth has coil springs in the front suspension . . .

    • I was wondering what the Polar Lights Chargers were like for chassis. I recall that their bodies were a mess, but seem to remember that the chassis wasn't bad. I have one in storage but can't get to it at the moment. *NM*
      • Just went to Drastic Plastics - other than the enomous trans tunnel, the chassis looks pretty usable for a RR
        • I wonder how far off the trans tunnel is. The Petty cars seemed to have large tunnels. *NM* *LINK*

        • The Kit Car kit could lend you some things. The front suspension is pretty specifically a Mopar deal, and is pretty detailed. I’m not sure…

            • I used to have those issues of C/D. Forgot which Mopar team it used to build the car. Also forgot which NASCAR driver drove it in the 24 Hours of Daytona. *PIC*
              • Gotta re-read the story, but may have tossed it. Was the driver one of the Ruttman's?
              • Found an online finishing order for the race. The C/D Dodge is listed in 44th place, with the driving team of Ruttman/Baker/Behr listed. Oil pressure ia given as the reason for their place. It also noted the car finished 21st in IMSA's GTO class. *LINK*
