• Was going thru the kit stash & found the 2008 reissued MPC Rupp Super Sno-Sport snowmobile dragster, 1/20 scale originally issued in 1969....as snow is almost non-existant here in Oztralia the kit was not a big seller.....lol...has anyone here built it or seen one built?. *NM*
  • Hey Andy, I had that kit when they reissued it several years ago but I sold it at some point. I've seen a few of them built and they looked nice but I suspect they might be a bit fiddly. *NM*

  • Not sure about the numbers, but Round 2 has issued it twice and it hasn't gone to "closeout" so they must know something. I might have bought one had it been 1/25 scale *NM*
    • Re the 1/20 scale I think MPC had a thing with 1/20 in 1969 , they did a few kits, this snowmobile, the STP Turbine, McLaren M8D both I've built & they did a few others. *NM*

        • Yep I think you're right...I also vaguely remember a 1/20 Willy Borsch T Altered , that tooling ended up made into the Gridiron thing..........lol. *NM*
          • The T was based on the AMX and Corvette funny car chassis, with the Chevy engine from the Corvette *NM*

            • Creepy T is 1/25, based on the Vending Machine chassis (excellent T-bucket chassis, BTW)...
          • Personaly, I would love to see a re-issue of the Turbine, Altered 'T' and Popcorn Wagon. Those three kits have a lot of memories for me. *NM*
            • I built the MPC Turbine in the late 60's, used the tapered nose as a race car tail in the 70's, lol, then got & built a New Zealand Toltoys issue of the Turbine in the 2000's, molded in white plastic it was like meeting an old friend, tyres & decals from the USA. *NM*

            • I'd love to see a reissue of the STP Indy Turbine Car too. My dad had a couple of those back when I was a kid. I got a rebuilder from my friend that I want to redo with Indycals. *NM*
              • Bob, as I mentioned I built a NZ Toltoys issue in 2022, it has no kit # on the box, molded in white,I used the Indycal decals which were great & got aftermarketvinyl/silicon(?) tyres & seat from a guy in the USA,had trouble working out the STP colour so went with Tamiya

        • I have an original '70 AMX that only came with stock wheels and the "Lightning Bolt" reissue that has wiremag wheels but no spoked mags like Cragars. *NM*
          • The original kits only had one set of wheels, owing to the fact that the first version was done as a promo item and could only be built stock. The Round 2 reissue '70 has retooled stock wheels, and the wire mags (but no tires for those) *NM*
      • There was a story in SAE years ago that covered that era at MPC. Forgot his name, but the executive who pushed for the 1/20 scale kits, wound up at Lindberg, and he was responsib le for that company's 1/20 scale kits (the Explorer, Camaro, Firebird, S10/Syclone,...

        • I’m sure I’ve heard or read about it before, but my memory fails me, besides the obvious “ cuz they’re bigger” what was the reason for 1/20 scale cars in the first place, MPC did several back in the day as well *NM*

            • Back in the 70's I built a couple of the MPC 1/20 annual Vettes, that Dad brought home for me at different times... He thought they were really cool because of the working front suspensions. *NM*
              • They're pretty much the 1/25 scale kits made bigger. Not that that's a bad thing *NM*
      • There were a number of promos in 1:20 scale, both American and European. From early 1950s Plymouth wagons to Volvos. Several Hubley kits as well. *NM*

  • Any way to get a good fix on 1/20 custom wheels - what was generally offered
    • A fair number of Cragar S/S out there....only thing is, there's only two in each kit...
      • As long as I can land one, then I can cast as many as I need... just need that first example *NM*
        • Not sure what they were from (probably one of the show rods) but I landed a pair awhile back. They also fit the Plymouth Prowler rear tires that are used in the Wagon Rod and Phantom Vickie kits (with a little work) *NM*
    • Several years back AMT/ERTL did a series of 1/25 kits called Resto Rods that came with oversize wheels , I snagged a set from one for my MPC 1/20 Breedlove AMX build and they looked spot on for it size/scale wise *NM* *PIC*
    • The MPC Shalako had deep dish 5-spokes that could be a starting point. There's a Cragar sticker on the side of the car, so . . .
