• I couldn't help noticing something interesting about this Friday's random image posts... Both Bill and I included images of Chrysler K cars in our selections (Bill, a very clean Aries wagon and me, a mockup of my Dogde 600 ragtop project)

      • Current events are flashing me back to 1979, which is really the year that it felt like Detroit caved in
        • The K platform was in the works before Iacocca got there, as was the possibility of an exit from the truck business. The latter accounted for the stagnation of the pickups in the early Eighties...
          • First Dakota we got at the Chryco dealer I worked at was a 3.9, and there were already bets being placed on how quickly these would be replaced with 318/360s. Hot Rod came up with a nice white project truck not long after. *NM*
            • 3.9 was a great engine, even better in the "Magnum" version. Only weak link in my '88 was the stick transmission. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have sprung for the Torqueflite *NM*
          • They could see the writing on the wall for RWD in small cars, certainly

    • I missed my chance to buy a 1/24 scale DIECAST Plymouth Reliant several years ago! It was on a shelf in a convenience store. *PIC*

      • I bought one of them and the Aries to hopefully build a replica of my old '82 Reliant wagon. You can still find those Motormax K-cars fairly easily. *NM*

  • Probably not "cool", ever. But if you can find a real nice example, not rusted/abused/modified, they are few a few bucks. *NM*

  • I can't see a restoration on one, but a solid original would probably fetch good money. I drove a "later" one briefly back in the day, and it surprised me in how good it was *NM*
    • I actually owned a couple of them back in the mid/late 1990's, when you could buy them used absolutely dirt cheap... Honestly not bad cars for just getting around.

  • An '85 K car with tilt, cruise and p/windows (lebaron ragtop) lasted me over twelve years. Easy to fix and the magnificent heater made up for the drafts around the roof in cold weather :) Finally wore it out. *NM*
  • We bought a used Aries for my oldest daughter's first. Never a mechanical issue. She ended up trading it for a new Firebird. *NM*
  • We had a few of these in my family…
    • Same issues as some of the Omni/024s. People I knew who had them liked them in spite of things like door handles breaking *NM*
