Someone once told be that the two I built were "too pretty". All I could say was that they were conceivably fresh out of the shop, and the car owners had a lot of pride in workmanship. Plus, I don't think I'd know how to build a model any other way.

In Response To: I like it! Around here they usually didn’t run the big cars but there were some low buck racers built from them. Lots more “run what ya brung” back in those days. So not out of the realm of possibility. ()

When I was co-owner of a (real) short track open wheel car, we made it real pretty. We had all Winter to build it, and the other co-owner of the car was just like me; very picky about the details. Besides, it was great for taking pictures, and using them for getting sponsors. So what if half the passenger side got ripped off, and the nerf bars got all bent up on the first night? We fixed it up almost as good as new, got out the touch-up paint, and from ten feet away it looked great. We fixed it every week. Most of the cars that ran in our division were kept pretty nice, even though every Friday night something got tore up.
