I might have been 2-3 years old (c. 1962-63?) and he really put a lot of effort into the build.
Not sure where he got the tools, but the roof was removable, had the styline parts and considerable putty work. It was going to be a 'keepsake' build for me.
The pics are B/W, but it was really very nice esp. for the era, several coats of AMT Candy Apple Red over a silver base.
Not long after, I got my hands on it... and you can imagine the result. It sure would be good to build another one to that spec, with modern materials.
After that - all of our projects save for two that I can recall - were 'ghost' builds, Craftsman, etc. One was the Hurst Hairy Olds (c. 1967) that turned out quite nice after trying a brush job with the black (even worse than it sounds) and a replica of our '64 Mercury Monterey Convertible using the Testor's Light Blue that was a fair approximation of the Diamond Blue of the era. When I get a whiff of the old paints it takes me back 60 years!
